Due to rapid growth of wireless communications in recent years, ultra-wideband standards are therefore recommended as a new solution in order to support higher capacity in near future. Recently, ultra-wideband antennas are mostly developed based planar and monopole. However, we are herein interested in monopole antenna to challenge a new 3D shape offering low VSWR, high gain and omni-directional pattern. This article proposes a new flower-like shaped monopole antenna for ultra-wideband applications. The radiator was made of a copper thin sheet shaping as a four-petal flower, while ground plane made of a circular RT/Duroid #5880 laminate having a diameter of 70 mm. The radiator and ground plane were connected by a small copper wire at 2.5 mm of distance. In our measurement results, bandwidth was allowed at 3.1 ? 10.6 GHz, VSWR was obtained at less than 2, and antenna gain was greater than 3 dBi. In addition, due to independent four-petal radiator, radiation pattern on horizontal axis is more flexible to freely adjust as required. |
