During the past year, two special lectures were given in Beijing supported by IEICE.
Prof. Mark A. Yoder of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, USA, gave a special lecture, entitled “How mp3 Compression Works – More music, fewer bits”, at the meeting room of the east-Main Building, Tsinghua University. The number of participants is about 30.
Prof. Michael T. Johnson, a professor of Marquette University, gave a special lecture, entitled “Generalized phase space projection for nonlinear noise reduction”, at the meeting room of the east-Main Building, Tsinghua University. The number of participants is about 25.
Before both the lectures, Prof. Jian Yang first spent a few minutes making introduction of the IEICE organization to the audience. He encouraged the attendants to apply for the membership of IEICE.
On Oct. 31, 2008, Prof. Yang gave a publicity of IEICE to the participants in Chinese Radar Conference.
In addition, Prof. Yang nominated several persons to join IEICE overseas membership.
In March of 2009, Prof. Yang gave a report on the activities in Beijing area in the IEICE Overseas Section Representative Meeting and also gave a presentation in the general IEICE conference.
In 2009, we plan to invite two researchers to give two special lectures and give a publicity of IEICE in APSAR 2009 in Xian.
