Recent Progress in Optical Communication Technologies
-Innovations towards the Exabit-era
Considering a recent rapid growth of the traffic in communication systems, the fiber capacity of backbone systems must be increased furthermore from several Tbit/s to Pbit/s range, which raises the network throughput to Ebit/s. With current technologies, however, the fundamental capacity limits are rapidly being approached. In order to break these barriers, some innovations are indispensable. It is the aim of this workshop to give an overview on recent progress in various approaches using advanced fiber, amplification and modulation technologies and exchange ideas for future optical communication systems realized with innovative technologies. The workshop consists of eight invited talks by eminent researchers from across the world.
