東京大学大学院数理科学研究科において表現論的組合せ論をテーマに研究し、2002年に同大学院を修了(博士号(数理科学))。
博士取得後、東京大学生産技術研究所に研究の場を移し、符号理論の研究に従事。
2005年より産業技術総合研究所に勤務、応用研究に従事し、その後2013年に千葉大学に着任。
現在は符号理論、量子情報理論、離散数学を専門とする教育・研究活動を展開。
電子情報通信学会では、和文論文誌・ソサイエティ論文誌編集委員や情報理論とその応用サブソサイエティ委員(庶務担当)、国際会議ISITA2020の共同実行委員長など、学会運営を担当。
量子削除誤り訂正符号を創出し、同学会の2024年度最優秀論文賞を受賞。
さらに、応用的な活動として、千葉大学リサーチブルワリーの醸造責任者とし、千葉大ビール「CURAFT」シリーズをプロデュース。
He conducted research on representation-theoretic combinatorics at the Graduate School of Mathematical Sciences, the University of Tokyo, and received his Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences from the same university in 2002.
After earning his doctorate, he moved to the Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo, where he engaged in research on coding theory.
Since 2005, he has worked at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), focusing on applied research, and in 2013 he joined Chiba University.
He is currently engaged in education and research specializing in coding theory, quantum information theory, and discrete mathematics.
Within the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE), he has contributed to academic activities as an editorial board member of both the Japanese Journal and the Society Journal, secretary of the Sub-Society of Information Theory and Its Applications, and co-chair of the international conference ISITA 2020.
He developed quantum deletion error-correcting codes and received the 2024 Best Paper Award from the IEICE for this achievement.
In addition, as the brewing director of the Chiba University Research Brewery, he produces his original beer series, “CURAFT.”
