Summary:
Characterization of VHF-UHF electromagnetic wave propagation in tunnels has important applications in the field of mobile communications. Radio wave propagation in tunnels are influenced by several factors like shape, transverse dimensions of tunnels, frequencv and electrical parameters of the surrounding material of tunnels. In this paper, a vectorial parabolic equation has been derived and applied to model VHF/UHF wave propagation in tunnels. Vectorial parabolic equation model is solved using finite element method and results are analysed for straight and curved tunnels.
