Summary:
Progress of communication network technology enables various useful applications. An example of such applications is remote controlled unmanned vehicles (UVs). Server-based remote con-trolled UV has advantages over self-driving UVs. However, two major problems exist in realizing a UV remote control system. The first one is transmission delay in communication networks between a UV and a controller. The second is loss of control when a server or networks go down accidentally or intentionally. Our research goal is to realize a UV remote control system that solves these problems. In this research, we proposed to place a backup controller on a cloud server which was connected via the Internet. To overcome the transmission delay between a UV and a backup controller, we proposed to apply predictive control technique. In this paper, we show evaluation results of the accuracy of UV’s travelling route when the controller is switched from primary to backup.
