Summary:
The polar code is an error correction code proposed by Arikan. The correction capability of polar code depends on the codeword length. This is because channel polarization recursively as the codeword length increases. However, when the codeword length is short, the channel polarization cannot be performed sufficiently, and the correction capability is limited. In this paper, we propose a transmission scheme to improve the correction capability by enhancing the channel polarization of polar codes. In the proposed scheme, a multiple-input multiple-output system using the singular value decomposition method (SVD-MIMO) is considered. In SVD-MIMO, the receive signal power decreases in ascending order of the receive antenna index. We exploit this feature to increase the received power of some codeword bits while maintaining the same transmission rate as the conventional SVD-MIMO scheme. In addition, channel polarization of polar codes is enhanced by adding diversity effects to the bits that make a significant contribution to improving the error correction capability. Through computer simulation, we show that the proposed scheme can achieve a better bit error rate (BER) performance than the conventional SVD-MIMO transmission scheme.
