Summary:
In order to cope with the increasing amounts of communication traffic in data centers, an increase in the capacity of the optical transmission systems is needed; one solution is to use spatial division multiplexing using multi-mode fibers. However, since the waveform deteriorates due to chromatic dispersion and crosstalk occurs due to mode coupling, it is necessary to process the received signal and restore the waveform. In this paper, we examined the restoration of the waveform after transmission through a 4 mode fiber using signal processing by a neural network. We compared the resulting transmission characteristics with those obtained after restoration of the signal using Zero Forcing processing with a conventional MIMO (multiple-input and multiple-output) system.
