Summary:
We study experimentally the dynamics of a semiconductor laser with time-delayed optical feedback in the regime of low-frequency fluctuations, where the laser intensity displays sudden and irregular neuron-like spikes. We show that, by using ordinal time-series analysis, we can distinguish signatures of determinism and stochasticity in the sequence of spikes.
