Summary:
We experimentally investigate nonlinear dynamics in a photonic integrated circuit consisting of a semiconductor laser, semiconductor optical amplifiers, a photodiode, and a short external cavity. We investigate two-dimensional bifurcation diagram when the injection current and the feedback power are simultaneously changed. We observe fast chaotic oscillation and intermittent dynamics in photonic integrated circuits with different external cavity lengths.
