Summary:
Long-range dependence of long-term continuous intracranial electroencephalograms (IEEG) of three patients suffering from different types of epilepsy has been assessed by estimation of the Hurst exponent (H). Sensitivity of the estimation approach to different artifacts has been evaluated. A drop of H has occurred during all seizures. Gradual changes of H have been observed in the preictal and postictal periods. Based on these findings a seizure detection/prediction method has been developed.
