Summary:
In this paper, we propose a novel method to generate a time series from a complex network to identify an underlying evolution process behind the complex network. Based on the adjacency information between two nodes, we first arrange the nodes in the complex network in the Euclidean space, and show that their arrangements clearly correspond to their network structure. We further show that if the complex network is a growing network, namely complex network with temporal evolutions, we can regard the obtained arrangements as a time series. Thus, we can transform the complex network to a time series and analyze the time series using the methods based on the nonlinear dynamical system theory.
