Summary:
Power line communication (PLC) is considered as one of communication methods to support smart gird. Especially, PLC has the advantage that the installation cost is very low, since it can use existing power lines. G3-PLC is a protocol for the low-frequency narrow-band OFDM PLC and it is adopted in Japan. OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) is a multi-carrier modulation scheme. If the total power is restricted to a constant value and every carrier has the identical power and uses the same primary modulation in PLC, the transmission capacity cannot be maximized. Because the characteristics of transmission line are changed by the operational status of electrical appliances. In this paper, we assume that the impedance and noise strength of transmission line can be predicted from the operational status of electrical appliances. Under this condition, we formulate the transmission capacity, whose variables are the power and primary modulation of each carrier, considering the impedance and noise strength. Also, we attempt to optimize these variables to maximize the transmission capacity by PSO (Particle Swarm Optimizer).
