Summary:
We have developed a star network of chaotic maps, referred to as the augmented Lorenz map, which can be used as a pseudorandom number generator for a stream cipher. The augmented Lorenz map is capable of faster generation of chaotic time series in comparison with the augmented Lorenz equations, which were used as the pseudorandom number generator in the previous chaos-based stream cipher. In this paper, we assess the security of the binary pseudorandom numbers generated by the augmented Lorenz map and discuss the effect of the stream cipher using the map.
