Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper presents basic methods of victim identification applied in the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami on March 11, 2011. It was proved in this Earthquake/Tsunami disaster that dental identification is very effective compared with other biometric identification methods such as fingerprint/palmprint identification and DNA-based identification. Our group designed and implemented a workflow of large-scale dental identification in cooperation with Miyagi Prefectural Police and Miyagi Dental Association. This paper also discusses the potential of image-based forensic human identification techniques using medical image data such as radiographs, CTs and other modalities.
