Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It has been suggested that resting-state brain activity reflects the task-induced brain activity patterns. In this study, we examined whether neural representations of specific movements can be observed even in the resting-state brain activity patterns of motor areas. First, we defined two regions of interest (ROIs); areas activated with either task and those activated with both tasks. Using regularized logistic regression, we made the decoder that detects the voxel-level neural representations corresponding to the tasks from each of those ROIs. Next, we applied the decoder to the resting-state brain activity. We found that the decoder detected the neural activity similar to each task-induced neural activity, and the amount of detection was larger than that detected by the decoder whose weights were randomly shuffled, indicating that the resting-state brain activity includes the multi-voxel patterns similar to the neural representations of tasks. Therefore, these results suggest that the neural representation inherent in the resting-state brain activity has been organized finer and more complex than conventionally considered.
