Abstract(in English) | 【Purpose】 Recently, about 1% of peoples around the world suffer schizophrenia, and the number of schizophrenic patients thought to be increasing in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze cerebral white matter integrity using nerve fiber tractography and quantitatively evaluate schizophrenia. In this study, to clarify physical fiber connections associated with disease specific neuronal circuits, we developed an automated fiber tracking method using MR-DTI. 【Method】 Based on a parcellation map separating 54 regions of the white matter, we developed the following two methods. The first method automatically sets region of interest (ROI), whereas the second one automatically rotates the starting and ending surfaces of fiber tracking. These methods were verified using simulation data which referred to MR-DTI of 18 healthy controls. 【Result】 First, the newly developed methods could automatically set ROIs in wide regions where nerve fivers could be tracked sufficiently long. Secondly, the starting and ending surfaces of fiber tracking could accurately rotated along the running direction of fibers. Finally, streamlines of fiber tracking were confirmed to run along the first component of eigenvectors of simulation data. 【Conclusion】 These data demonstrate that the automated fiber tracking methods were feasible and may quantitatively evaluate schizophrenia based on parameters obtained by streamlines of fiber tracking. |
