A study of hand-drawn trees with leakage-typed crown using equivalent circuit analysis : Results of calculated leakage level

Abstract(in English) The tree-drawing test, in which patients draw a picture of a tree with nuts, has often been used in psychosomatic internal medicine as a conventional psychological test. We have proposed a way to analyze pictures using an image processing method, and provided medical information to diagnose patients' psychiatric disorders. It is known that mentally vulnerable patients draw fragmented outlines of the tree crown. This type of picture indicates leakage of mental vigor of a patient. To assess the patients' vulnerability quantitatively, we used the equivalent circuit method, placing electrodes in the center of the tree crown and a ground wire around the tree crown. We measured values of the current outflow from the electrodes as leakage level from the tree outlets. This current outflow shows a stronger correlation with patients' scores on the depression scales and a weaker correlation with scores on the anxiety scale. Therefore, it is plausible that this current outflow reflects the patients' personalities.
