Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) When two visual patterns moving in opposite directions are superimposed on the same plane, observers perceive transparent surfaces on different depth planes. This phenomenon is known as transparent motion perception. When we keep on observing this transparent motion stimuli, we experience perceptual alternations spontaneously. However the brain activity about this phenomenon is still not revealed. In this study, in order to investigate cortical activity associated with intrinsic perceptual alternation during observation of transparent motion stimuli, we measured MEG and eye movements simultaneously and analyzed the time course of event-related synchronizations (ERSs)-/desynchronizations (ERDs) triggered by the change of optokinetic nystagmus. As a result, significant differences in ERDs in alpha band (8-13Hz) were observed in MEG sensors in the velocity of the occipital regions at 300 ms before perceptual alternation.
