A Support System of Automated Tests in Software Development Exercises

Abstract(in English) This study aims to develop a support environment for enabling software development beginners to smoothly practice development procedures through automated tests, therefore the "testable" source code development support is treated. The "testable source code" is a source code with the necessary properties for automated test execution, a number of relevant patterns have been proposed. In this study, we first extracted characteristics that are fatal in executing automated tests from these patterns. We defined the characteristics of the testable source code in this study as quantified properties in order to detect mechanically "untestable" source codes that do not satisfy the characteristics. Then we developed methods for detecting the quantified characteristics and a system in which untestable codes are automatically detected by using these methods. Furthermore, we utilized the system in software development exercises, and evaluation results obtained for it showed the usefulness and validity of the proposed method.
