Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The present work aims at developing and evaluating a braille learning support system focusing on the mirroring of braille characters for intending librarians and social welfare workers supporting the visually impaired. In response to Motoki (2014) reporting that five out of 25 trainees (25%) on an earlier version of the system did not fully understand the mirroring of the braille characters, an additional feature was added to the system which allows the trainee to invert at any time the three-dimensional image of character(s) generated using the VRML. In a test on 30 trainees, six (12.5%) gave wrong answers: one inverted individual characters consecutively (the same error as encountered in a test for the previous version), and five correctly inverted entire character strings but left-aligned them. While the decrease of the former error in comparison with the earlier version indicates some improvement, the latter error is new. The system should be supplemented by more detailed information on the mirroring of braille characters provided in lectures and by three-dimensional graphic illustrations.
