Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a new compound presentation system (Prop-Tactile display) to make it easier for visually impaired people to rapidly and accurately understand two-dimensional information. The system has two additional presentation methods on a conventional tactile pin-display, one is a local vibration presentation method and the other a powered mechanical leading method. Here we evaluate the effect of addition of these two methods compared with the case of the tactile pin-display only. In the first experiment, easiness of recognition and imagination is subjectively evaluated using two categories of contents which are used in daily life and in education. Then we perform another experiment to distinguish intersected graphs of two trigonometric functions and objectively evaluate in recognition time and correct answer rate. The subjective evaluation result shows that the evaluation values for the addition of the powered mechanical leading presentation or of the local vibration presentation are higher than the static pin-display presentation only regardless of the categories of contents. The result of the objective evaluation shows that the recognition time is significantly shortened and the correct answer rate is improved in the proposed two methods. These results clearly suggest that the proposed Prop-Tactile display is very effective in terms of speed and accuracy for visually-impaired people to understand figures and graphs.
