A Study on Mutual Interference Reduction Schemes in LTE-Advanced Device-to-device Communication

Abstract(in English) In 3GPP (The 3rd-Generation Partnership Project) standardization, it has been discussed to adopt Device-to-Device (D2D) communication in Release 12 and 13 specification for LTE (Long-Term Evolution)-Advanced Networks. In D2D communication, a part of the radio resources for cellular communications can be used for D2D communications. Therefore, it is necessary to develop schemes to mitigate mutual interference between cellular and D2D communications. In this paper, we discuss transmission power control (TPC) schemes for D2D communication as one of the interference mitigation techniques. We evaluate TPC which compensates pathless effect between D2D user terminals (UTs), and TPC which takes both pathless effect between a base station and a user terminal and pathless effect between D2D user terminals into consideration. In addition, we discuss achievable system capacity when we simultaneously apply such TPC scheme and communication mode selection (CMS) schemes, where UTs choose cellular or D2D communication modes to transmit data according to radio environment.
