Recovery from Multiple Node Failures by Virtual Network Topology Control Based on Attractor Selection

抄録(英) The difficulties of high granularity switching at ultra high speed of wavelength division multiplexing optical networks and the limitation of transmitter/receiver count in a node is solved by using wavelength switching and employing virtual network topologies, which is the effective topology seen by the IP network. However, reconfiguration of a virtual network topology becomes necessary when the traffic conditions change or network failures occur. In this paper, we present an attractor selection mechanism, which is similar to the system used by living organisms, in order to recover from topology failures and find a new virtual network topology, which minimizes the maximum lightpath load in the network, without requiring the traffic matrix. Simulation results indicate that increasing the stochastic control by parameter tuning decreases the recovery time, but it may have side effects. As an alternative, we propose randomizing the expression levels of lightpaths by one time after the failure, which allows the system to do random walk to find a new attractor state in a shorter time. We show that randomization allows faster recovery than increasing the noise or gradient parameter.
