Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have constructed a system that optimizes computer room air conditioner (CRAC) temperature setting and server workload placement by coordinating them with a virtualization product. The system was implemented in our machine room and resulted in an approximately 30% reduction in CRAC power consumption. However, in practical operation environments, the system will not always achieve the maximum effect because of restrictions on workload placement and different patterns of server resource usage. This paper reports what effects the restriction of workload placement and server resource usage had on reducing the energy consumption of CRACs.
