Abstract(in English) | With the introduction of intelligent transport systems (ITS), vehicles will soon begin to serve as communication vehicles, much like handheld PC and smartphones. To achieve wide deployment of VANET apps., acquisition of new available spectrum bands (SBs) is becoming an urgent necessity, but it is extremely difficult due to the spectrum scarcity problem. In this study, cognitive radio technology, in which unlicensed secondary user (SU) temporarily utilizes white space(s), i.e., unused SBs, flexibly from the vast range of SBs allocated to licensed primary user (PU), is applied to VANET (Cognitive VANET). In Cognitive VANET, since (1) the network topology and (2) available white spaces change continuously in time and space, a common control channel (CCC) is essential to provide efficient communication. We propose the architectural design of both location-based and group-based CCCs to solve two crucial issues. A first CCC enables a vehicle to discover other vehicles, and to form a group based upon the information exchanged in a large area (i.e., Zone), which is referred to as a zone aware control channel (ZACC). After forming the group, the second group-based CCC conveys and shares various information among vehicles participating the group (i.e., Swarm), to select a data channel (i.e., Dch), which is referred to as a swarm aware control channel (SACC). In this study, we compare the performance of the proposed scheme with the existing studies through simulation experiments and show that the proposed scheme can improve the CCC's availability by 40% at the maximum. |
