Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Multicore fiber (MCF) is paid much attention as a breakthrough for expanding transmission capacity of optical network. For practical application of MCF, the establishment of its connectivity is essential. We have developed fiber bundle type fan-out (FBF) as a fan-out for MCF. Recently, MCF whose cores are arranged in rectangular configuration for optical interconnection has been reported. In this study, we applied 8 cores in 19-core FBF to a fan-out for 2 row x 4 cores (= 8 cores) MCF and connected with 8-core MCF. We evaluated the accuracy of core position for fabricated 2x4-core FBF and confirmed high accuracy of less than 0.6 μm. We also connected two FBFs and both end faces of 2x4-core MCF and evaluated the optical properties in the connection configuration. Low insertion loss < 1.6 dB (0.8 dB < /one end), low cross-talk < -60 dB and low reflection < -50 dB were respectively confirmed.
