Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a hybrid pumping sheme of a cladding- and core-direct-pumping in a multi-core erbium-doped fibre amplifier (MC-EDFA). The pumping scheme can overcome a challenge that it is difficult for an MC-EDFA with a cladding-pumping to apply an automatic gain control (AGC) to individual cores. The proposed MC-EDFA can realise an AGC by driving a pump laser diode (LD) for a cladding-pumping with a constant current and changing the driving current of a pump LD for core-direct-pumping, according to the change in the wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) signal power level or the WDM channel number. We examine the static characteristics of the gain control the MC-EDFA that employs the hybrid pumping scheme, and show that the MC-EDFA with the pumping scheme can control the gain with a small change against WDM signal power level and channel number changes.
