Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We analyze the transmission characteristics of homogeneously coupled-three-core fiber for mode-division multiplexing transmission. Supermode properties of the fiber (effective refractive index and group delay) are evaluated by full-vector finite element method. It is shown that by adding an air-hole to the center of the fiber, the effective refractive index difference between different supermodes is reduced, leading to stronger mode coupling and smaller differential modal group delay (DMGD). Also, the core-to-core distance can be reduced by adding air-hole. Modal coupling caused by micro-bending in the fiber is assessed by the coupled field theory. In the strong mode coupling regime, it is found that the DMGD of the fiber having smaller effective refractive index difference becomes small further since the modal coupling occurs for smaller perturbation due to micro-bending.
