End-reflection assisted Brillouin measurement using broadband probe pulse

Abstract(in English) We have proposed individual loss distribution measurement technique for PON using end-reflection-assisted Brillouin analysis. In deployed FTTH networks, bending-loss insensitive fibers (BIFs) are often connected to installed standard single mode fibers (SSMFs) and used in branched fibers in passive optical networks (PON). These fibers have different Brillouin frequency shifts. In this condition, the measurement system must control the frequency between pump and probe light for monitoring the fiber loss. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate the end-reflection assisted Brillouin analysis using broadband probe beam. This proposed method can measure the loss distribution without controlling the frequency between pump and probe pulse.
