Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we report our findings concerning the absorption characteristics of graphene coated Silicon-on-Insulator wire waveguides. We characterize these structures using a novel method we developed, and observe, for the first time, a reversal in the dominantly absorbed mode with waveguide thickness variation, as well as it's dependency of the waveguide width. We also show that the TM mode exhibits a clear absorption peak near the 240nm waveguide thickness. These findings are further explained by detailed comparisons of the optical mode profiles and could be crucial in designing novel optical filters, polarization shifters or ultra-fast optical modulators.
