Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) An affine invariant character shape matching method using the Radon transform and a non-linear matching is proposed. In our proposed method, the Radon transform is applied on an original image; the amplitude-component is extracted using the one-dimensional Fourier transform performed on each column of the Radon image, and the log mapping is also performed on the columns. After these operations, an invariant descriptor with respect to the character shape translation is obtain; the character shape rotation and scaling are exchanged to the two-dimensional translation. Since shape shearing provides a sparse and dense distortion on the domain, the non-linear matching is applied for the robustness. In the character recognition, the affine distortions on character shapes (rotation, scaling, translation, and sharing) are serious technical issues, therefore out proposed method provides high recognition performance.
