Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we investigate whether participants' cup touching behaviors relate to their self-assessments of dyadic conversation. We quantitatively analyze participants' behaviors during dyadic conversation using videos while beverage intakes were offered to pairs of participants (N = 30 pairs). In particular, we focused on two kinds of participant behaviors; one was the pause in intake action, the other the self-adaptor. Results indicate that longer pause time in intake action is associated with more frequent breaking into lively conversation in a tense atmosphere, and longer self-adaptor time was associated with greater satisfaction with their conversation without awkwardness. We discuss these results as evidence that a beverage cup could be worthwhile tool contributing to improvements in participants' impression of their communication.
