Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is well known that language development in twins is delayed when compared with that in singletons. "Twin language" has been identified as one of the reasons delaying twins' linguistic development. Twin language is defined as a language unique to each pair of twins, cannot be understood by others, including their parents, and is used between the twins exclusively in specific situations. The twins in this study were an opposite-sex pair born in 2009. They did not experience any language delays and had been using twin language since about the ages of 2-4 years. They used twin language to share their feelings or encourage one another. To enhance parents' literacy of childrearing and twin development, this study reports on the interaction between the twins from birth to about 2 years old.
