Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The aim of this study is to examine the behaviors that promote mother-child communication by observing a mother read a picture book to her child. This study revealed that the mother-hild communication changed after the child's first meaningful utterance, and the mother began asking questions to the child 12 months after birth. Furthermore, six months after birth, it was observed that the mother's actions, such as onomatope, emotional reading of a picture book, and imitation of characters, promoted mother-child communication. Therefore, we can conclude that emotional interaction is an important factor in the promotion of mother-child communication.
