| Abstract(in English) | The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the contents of wisdoms and reactions of young generations on generativity of the elderly in passing their wisdoms toward young generations. Participants were 37 middle-aged and old Male adults aged 64-77 years. They were assigned to the "wisdoms from experiences of failure" condition or the "wisdoms from experiences of success" condition. In the experiences of failure condition, the participants were asked to tell their experiences of failure from youth and wisdom they have gained from them to recipients, whereas in the experiences of success condition, they were asked to tell their experiences of success. The recipients responded to the participants in either positive or normal way. Results showed that generativity in the elderly was promoted most when the young recipients responded in a positive manner to the narratives about "wisdoms from experiences of failure". The effect of reactions of young generations when the elderly would make use of their negative experiences for the youth was discussed. |
