Abstract(in English) | Millimeter-wave complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) radio frequency (RF) circuits have been received substantial attention by the advanced CMOS process technology. Influence of metal strips in the CMOS chip is not negligible, even if the size is small compared with the wavelength, because the density is high. In this report, effective material property for metal strips in a CMOS chip are extracted using eigenmode analysis for a unit-cell of the periodic structure to consider the influence. Metal strips embedded in SiO_2 are analyzed as an example. The metal strips are anisotropic, and it is shown that the effective permittivity is equivalent to the metal in parallel to the strip axis and larger than SiO_2 in perpendicular to the axis. For verification, S-parameters of a parallel plate waveguide with 100 metal strips are compared with ones with effective material for metal strips. S-parameters agreed well with each other. |
