Abstract(in English) We have proposed a pre-equalizing electro-optic (EO) modulator using traveling-wave electrodes and polarization-reversed structures for compensation for fiber dispersion effect. The proposed EO modulator can convert high-speed electrical signals to optical signals and can compensate for the signal distortion caused by fiber dispersion at the same time. It can operate in the high frequency range over 100GHz since it is based on the Pockels effect in a ferroelectric crystal. Therefore, it is applicable to ultra-high-speed communication systems. In this device, the velocity of the lightwave propagating in the optical waveguide is different from that of the modulation wave travelling along the electrode. Then the impulse response of the modulator becomes a real function similar to the polarization reversal pattern itself. By utilizing this relationship, the impulse response for the fiber dispersion effect compensation is obtainable. In this paper, the design of pre-equalizing EO modulator with polarization-reversed structures by utilizing delta-sigma transformation is reported. The control of pre-equalizing characteristics by loading a metal or dielectric plate is also reported.
