Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Wavelength-chirp of electro-optic intensity modulators was investigated for zero-chirp modulation. The imbalance in light power splitting ratio between two arms of Mach-Zehnder (MZ) interferometer was found to strongly affect the chirp property. Thereby, we considered a dual-electrode MZ modulator with a microwave rat-race (RR) circuit for the low-chirp modulation. And the electrode for adjusting the light power splitting ratio between two arms of MZ interferometer was prepared on the same substrate to eliminate the residual chirp. The modulator was designed and fabricated on a single LN substrate for around 10 GHz modulation frequencies and 1550 nm light wavelength. The chirp parameter of the modulator was measured to be about 0.08 at 10 GHz. The chirp was reduced to around zero by compensating imbalance of the light power splitting in the waveguide MZ interferometer.
