Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A polarization converter using an array of subwavelength triangular holes is analyzed by the imaginary-distance beam-propagation method based on Yee's mesh and the finite-difference time-domain method. Optimum configuration parameters are determined using the eigenmode analysis. For a thickness of only 2.3 μm, the polarization converter acts as a half-wave plate over a wide wavelength range of 1.2 μm to 1.8 μm. The polarization converter becomes a quarter-wave plate in half the thickness. The addition of an antireflection coating achieves a high power transmittance of more than 90% over the same wavelength range.
