Abstract(in English) | This article describes a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) waveguide optical isolators based on a magneto-optic effect. Their transmission characteristics depend on temperature, because refractive indices and magneto-optic coefficient of materials change as temperature changes. By measuring temperature-dependent transmission characteristics of MZI isolator, we derive temperature coefficient of Ce:YIG refractive index dn/dT = 2.5×10^<-4> K^<-1> and temperature-dependent magneto-optic coefficient dθ_F/dT = 13 deg/cm/K. Moreover, a temperature-insensitive MZI waveguide optical isolator is designed based on measured temperature coefficients of Ce:YIG. Using a 550-nm-wide and 220-nm-high silicon waveguide, a temperature-insensitive isolator can be realized with a 265-μm-long nonreciprocal phase shifter and a 4.3-μm-long reciprocal phase shifter. The isolator exhibits an isolation wavelength shift of 0.081 nm for a temperature change of 0 - 70 ℃. |
