Frequency-Domain Equalization Suitable for Single-Carrier Space-Frequency Block Coded Transmit Diversity in Frequency-Selective Fading Channel

Abstract(in English) Recently, we proposed multi-block frequency-domain equalization (MB-FDE) for time division duplex (TDD) single-carrier (SC) space-time block coded (STBC) diversity and showed that the use of MB-FDE can achieve a good BER performance even in high mobility environment. On the other hand, it is well known that space-frequency block coded (SFBC) diversity can achieve better BER performance than STBC diversity in high mobility environment. However, in a frequency-selective fading channel, the performance of SFBC diversity degrades due to interference caused by the orthogonality distortion of SFBC codeword. In this paper, we propose a multi-subcarrier FDE (MS-FDE) for TDD-SC-SFBC diversity in a frequency-selective fading channel. In the proposed MS-FDE, multiple FDE weights, each associated with each subcarrier, are jointly optimized based on minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion taking into account the channel variation within SFBC codeword. We evaluate, by computer simulation, BER performance when using the proposed MS-FDE and show that MS-FDE can achieve better BER performance than conventional FDE. Furthermore, we compare STBC diversity with MB-FDE and SFBC diversity with MS-FDE and show the range of normalized rms delay spread and normalized Doppler spread in which SFBC diversity with MS-FDE outperforms STBC diversity with MB-FDE.
