Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We present fixed-length, variable-capacity (FL-VC) packets for Optical Packet Switching (OPS) networks. Fixed length achieves a reasonable compromise between implementation feasibility and throughput, leveraging the empirical characteristics of common workloads. Variable capacity allows to leverage knowledge about expected paths, adapting packet bit rates. Using simulation of metropolitan area network (MAN) rings we show that FL-VC packet increases throughput 4 to 32 times for common workloads with respect to conventional technology, and that a single fiber-delay-line (FDL) per switch achieves half the throughput allowed by random-access-memory (RAM) buffers.
