Implementation of Appliance Controller Service in Cloud-Based Home Network Service

Abstract(in English) Home network system (HNS) provides a variety of value-added services by orchestrating house-hold appliances and sensors. In our previous research, we have proposed Cloud HNS that delegates all of HNS functions to Cloud. In this paper, we propose IRaaS (Infrared as a Service) which controls legacy house-hold appliances based on infrared signal controlling, as a Cloud HNS service. IRaaS is consist of two components, IR Proxy and jRemocon. IR Proxy is a service that delegates control request to jRemocon, and jRemocon is a device that transmits infrared signal to execute appliance control. Using its components, IRaaS executes requested appliance control. Then, we design and consider elements required for implementing IRaaS, and we also create and test a prototype. Based on these results, we discuss the effectiveness of proposed system.
