Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It has become important to confirm whether streaming communication is readily available with the widespread use of streaming communication services on users' access networks before services begin. However, special software is needed to measure the quality of streaming. On the other hand, a new Web real-time communication platform called Web real-time communications (WebRTC) has become available on Web browsers. The arbitrary data communication APIs of WebRTC can be utilized for network measurements. We propose a new system of WebRTC-based network measurement that can measure performance metrics between end computers without deploying any special software. Experiments on the method of measurement were carried out in real environments. As a result, we clarified that the proposed method could precisely obtain performance metrics related to the streaming quality of an access network.
