Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is very difficult for visually impaired persons to get information on obstacles such as a tree branches or protuberances sticking out into his way only by using a normal white cane. Detection methods of obstacles with an electronic white cane which has various sensors have been studied. However, it is difficult to detect plural obstacles only by using a distance sensor such as an ultrasonic sensor or an infrared ray sensor. On the other hand, detection methods of obstacles or uneven places applying image recognition or image processing technologies have been studied. However, these methods are not able to detect obstacles when visually impaired person is in the dark place. This paper proposes the advanced method of presuming obstacles by using both sensors and image recognition technology and effectiveness of this method is clarified.
