Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Two memory scanning conditions (phonemical/graphical) were set for the modified Sternberg task using Hiragana and Katakana characters. We measured EEGs of 18 healthy subjects, and computed event-related desynchronizations (ERDs) from cortical-reconstructed alpha oscillations. As a result, significant correlations between reconstructed alpha suppression time and reaction time in the higher visual areas including V2/V3 were obsereved in both conditions. This result indicated that the sensory area of the stimulus presentation primarily related to the identification process of the serial memory. On the contrary, significant correlation was found in the angular gyrus and the several cortical areas along the dorsal visual pathway only in the graphical identification condition. It is suggested that active attentional control and memory retrieval in the condition with additional cognitive requirement of graphical identification were reflected as the involvement of the angular gyrus and the dorsal visual pathway.
