Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Emotional processing performed in advance of perceptual processing (called as pre-perceptual emotional processing), has been reported to facilitate the following visual processing in a visual search and attentional blink tasks. However, the facilitation due to pre-perceptual emotional processing in lower-order visual processing, where is assumed to be not related to attentional function, has been suggested by event-related potential study. Recently, simple geometric shapes such as downward-pointing triangles are possible to drive threat. The present study investigated the effect of pre-perceptual emotional processing on early visual processing in masked target detection task using simple geometric shapes. The results indicated that the detection sensitivity of downward-pointing triangle was significantly high nevertheless the discrimination performance was low. Moreover, the high sensitivity of downward-pointing triangle was not attributed to the difference of the visual field and the novelty. Thus, the present study showed that threats induced by downward-pointing triangle facilitated the masked target detection performance.
