Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A new BAN specification, under the Technical Committee (TC) on Smart BAN, is now being considered in the European Telecommunications Standard Institute (ETSI) targeting ultra low power devices. This paper proposes and evaluates our proposed two channel based access mechanism for Smart BAN system. Both hubs and nodes use two channels, control channel and data channel, for communication. The control channel is used for announcements from which both nodes and neighboring hubs are able to gather information for use in co-existence algorithms as well as for initial connection setup. The data channel is used for connection setup and sensor data transmission. Our proposed system uses simple time division multiple access (TDMA) in the data channel so that the power consumption of nodes is kept low. Shared access TDMA mechanism has also been proposed to reduce the latency of emergency signals. Shared access TDMA mechanism allows each node to send emergency signals on all slots if it detects the slot is not in use. We evaluate the access delay and power consumption of our system in this paper, and show that the proposed shared access mechanism reduces the latency of emergency signals.
