Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Centralized Radio Access Network (C-RAN) architecture has been considered as a promising solution to enhance the LTE signal quality. In this architecture, each antenna sites are connected to a central office by optical fibers which convey the digital I/Q data. This paper proposes a novel IQ data compression scheme which can achieve 50 % compression without severely degrading the LTE signal quality. The proposed compression scheme can be easily implemented by using both downsampling and nonlinear quantization techniques. In addition, the impact of the proposed scheme is investigated in C-RAN requiring 20-Gbit/s transmission rate. We confirmed that the proposed scheme was found to be indispensable for achieving 20-km transmissions with keeping the required LTE quality.
